Our 85th show features an interview with Karen Davis of United Poultry Concerns. Karen is an expert on everything having to do with chickens, turkeys and other birds that people eat. Karen runs a sanctuary in Maryland where she houses hundreds of rescued birds, and also has recently come out with a revised edition of her classic book on the subject Prisoned Chickens Poisoned Eggs: An Inside Look at the Modern Poultry Industry. Karen gives us some insight into birds and the agribusiness that treats them like garbage. Scott updates us with news about Diabetes, sleep and brain power, and the latest meat recalls and mishaps.

On Halloween day Derek, Megan and Scott along with several other activists took The Vegan Bus from Northampton to the 14th annual Boston Vegetarian Food Festival. Derek conducted a series of interviews that are featured on this special enhanced podcast. He talks to Dr Michael Greger about the latest in vegan nutrition and also the swine flu epidemic. Helen from the Massachusetts Animal Rights Coalition (MARC) talks about local activism and getting the vegan message into the classroom. Local farm animals sanctuaries Cloa's Ark and Maple Farm Sanctuary are interviewed, as well as local vegan clothing and sneaker producers Autonomie Project. We have a mouth watering interview with the Chicago Soy Dairy and balance that with nutritional advice from vegan bodybuilding champion and author Robert Cheeke. And while the recorder batteries died before Derek got to interview Danielle Konya of Vegan Treats he does wax poetic about their vegan donuts. Where else can you get all this fun in one podcast? Show 83 features an interview with Eric Prescott, a Boston-based animal rights activist who is working on a variety of interesting projects, including a kiosk named OVED, a documentary series on Youtube called "I'm Vegan", the Boston Vegan Association, and his blog An Animal Friendly Life. Eric is an abolitionist who subscribes to the philosophy of Gary Francione. Eric explains the difference between abolitionist and welfarist approaches to animal activism, and is a living example of how to put abolitionist ideals into action.
