The golf world witnessed two major developments this past week – the shocking acquisition of boutique putter brand L.A.B. Golf by luxury giant LVMH for a reported $200 million and the release of Adam Sandler's long-awaited sequel, Happy Gilmore 2.The L.A.B. Golf acquisition represents a pivotal moment in the equipment industry as a cult-favorite brand transitions into corporate ownership. While fans and competitors alike sent congratulations to founder Sam Hahn, questions linger about the future direction of these beloved putters. Was this a necessary lifeline for a brand struggling with scaling production and managing growth? Will L.A.B. putters remain accessible or transform into luxury items with price tags to match their new parent company's other offerings? We break down the potential motivations behind the sale, insider perspectives on production challenges, and what this could mean for other boutique golf brands potentially eyeing similar exits.Happy Gilmore 2 delivers exactly what you'd expect from an Adam Sandler golf comedy – ridiculous scenarios, heartfelt moments, and an impressive roster of cameos from golf's biggest names. The film manages to balance nostalgic callbacks with a surprisingly coherent storyline about redemption. While not cinematic brilliance, it captures the fun spirit of golf that appeals beyond traditional audiences. We analyze the movie's approach to the divide between established tours and upstarts, the standout performances (John Daly steals every scene), and the prominence of actual golf brands throughout the film.Between planning our upcoming Arizona golf adventure, discussing the challenges facing Vegas courses during extreme heat, and teasing our Nebraska golf expedition, we offer perspective on respecting the hard work of maintenance crews battling water restrictions. With course conditions varying widely across the country, we remind listeners that not every course can or should be Augusta National – especially in August when temperatures soar above 110 degrees.Follow us on social media and subscribe to our channel for a chance to win exclusive golf gear in our upcoming giveaway. Finding joy in the small moments of golf might be the secret to both happiness and improvement. Our conversation this week explores how the game's greatest champions approach winning, why some players obsess over stats while others reject scorecards entirely, and what makes a community tournament special despite challenging conditions. When Scottie Scheffler secured another major victory, his subdued celebration sparked a fascinating discussion about competitive mindset. Unlike Tiger's fierce intensity, Scheffler appears almost indifferent to winning—focused more on being a great husband, father and human than collecting trophies. Could this detachment from results actually be his superpower? The contrast between different approaches to competition mirrors our own diverse perspectives on score-keeping, with some hosts tracking every metric while others refuse to even carry a pencil. We share laughs opening vintage 1991 PGA Tour card packs (complete with $0.10 coupons!), recap the VGN tournament at Chimera where players battled heat, humidity, and mysteriously slow greens, and preview our upcoming adventure to Payson, Arizona to experience two spectacular private courses. The conversation turns philosophical when we consider what drives our passion for golf. Is it the pursuit of lower scores and technical perfection, or simply the gift of playing each hole, regardless of outcome? As one host reminds us, "Every hole you get to play is a gift" – a perspective worth remembering whether you're competing for millions or just enjoying a weekend round with friends. Please leave us a review on iTunes if you like the show!https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-chasing-daylight-podcast/id1464725572Support the show

When does a golf obsession cross the line into absurdity? This week, we explore the curious case of driver aesthetics – why golfers fixate on colors they'll never see during actual play. Dan shares his jaw-dropping 272-yard hole-out for double eagle at Boulder Creek, leading to a spectacular seven-under round, while Matt recounts his hole-out for Eagle at Red Rock Country Club. The equipment world is buzzing with controversies. We dissect the unauthorized appearance of premium Lab putters at Costco, raising questions about brand dilution versus market expansion. Meanwhile, Callaway's all-black "Night Edition" driver has Dan practically drooling, sparking a heated debate about whether club aesthetics genuinely impact performance or merely feed our psychological need for visually appealing gear.Perhaps most fascinating is YouTube golf star Grant Horvat declining his PGA Tour invitation to the Barracuda Championship after being told he couldn't bring his film crew. This decision highlights the growing tension between traditional golf and content creation, with the guys offering contrasting perspectives on whether Horvat made the right call. With the Open Championship at beautiful Royal Portrush upon us, we share our predictions for golf's final major of the year and debate whether hometown favorite Rory McIlroy can handle the immense pressure. The episode wraps with our popular "All In or Fold" segment, featuring Jeremy's stance against golf course misbehavior and a heartwarming discussion about the golf community's remarkable charitable efforts for recent flood victims.Don't miss this episode that perfectly captures the intersection of golf's timeless traditions and its rapidly evolving modern landscape.
